Red River
The Red River flows through central Kentucky, the portion most commonly paddled is the section near and through the Red River Gorge. There are flatwater and a class III whitewater section. The "Canoe and Kayak Guide to Kentucky" lists the whitewater section as one of the most scenic in the nation. Even though it is only class III, catching it at a good level is very difficult, and deadfall is often a problem requiring expert paddling ability to avoid due to the swift current and narrow channel. The flatwater sections are still water, and usually runable in the summer time, and there are outfitters who rent canoes on these sections.
Camping
Camping is possible along the shoreline and throughout the Red River Gorge area. A permit is required to leave a parked car after 10pm which can be obtained at the RRG main office, or at some of the gas stations in the area.
